It all started with an idea…
Heroes Haven is the brain-child of a few folks in the Sharptown community. Organized and incorporated in 2012, Heroes Haven was created for the express purpose of giving aid, comfort, and support to America’s severely wounded Heroes. The organization came to fruition after a number of visits to Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Bylaws and a constitution were enacted in order to lay out the principles of the organization. 501(c)(3) non-profit status was acquired in 2014 and back-dated to August 2012.

How we’ve grown…
Heroes Haven, as designed, is a community project with a basic purpose of bringing awareness in our community to the special needs of the severely injured soldiers and to aid in their recovery by acting as a bridge back into society, as only a community can do.
The initial support tactic was in the form of a three-day black powder hunt for white-tail and sika deer on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. On the fourth day, a banquet would take place to celebrate. As a community we continue to this day welcome our Heroes into our homes and neighborhoods, and they become part of our family.
As the Heroes Haven community expanded, so did the opportunities available to the Heroes. Local landowners began to offer wildfowl hunts, watermen offered fishing and crabbing trips, and a local businessman offered once-in-a-lifetime NASCAR experiences at the spring and fall races at Dover International Speedway.
